Big Krit Talks “Cadillactica” 1st Week Numbers + J. Cole Releasing His Album With No Promo

Big K.R.I.T.’s latest album Cadillactica opened with over 43,000 units sold in its first week and debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The Mississippi rapper/producer spoke with DJ Smallz about the sales numbers for his sophomore studio LP. K.R.I.T. touched on how his previous LP Live from the Underground received a bigger promotional push than Cadillactica, but the success of his new project shows he has built a strong, supportive fan base. There are people that actually went on NPR and streamed the album, but they still went out and bought the record. That says a lot. To stream your album for free, and people still double back and still support it,” said K.R.I.T. “I feel like even my album was under shipped, based off of this hard to calculate how many people will go in the store and buy the album. It’s an uphill battle, but slowly but surely people are finding out my albums out.” The “Pay Attention” performer was also asked about fellow emcee J. Cole’s decision to release his upcoming album 2014 Forest Hills Drive with no singles and very little mainstream promotion. Some people have the marketing team, the push to do that. Some people don’t,” stated K.R.I.T. “That’s all about how you maneuver, I guess, in the beginning and having the right team put together, how you built your fan base.” The 28-year-old Def Jam signee goes on to suggest that not all artists should take the route Cole is attempting with his third album. K.R.I.T. added entertainers that have a strong social media/online presence have a better chance of being successful with a “no promo” project release.

P.S. We have Eminiem's new album Shady 2.0

Kendrick Lamar Says "i" Came From Depression & Insecurity

In a past interview with Hot 97 personalities Ebro Darden and Peter Rosenberg, Compton, California rapper Kendrick Lamar revealed that his “i” record was made for those locked up and those who feel they have nothing to live for. K-Dot again addressed the record while speaking with 93.7 The Beat’s Devi Dev and shared that he too has dealt with depression and insecurity. The TDE lyricist explained that newfound fame and fortune can bring about a lot of depression and turmoil. The record feels great and feels good, but it comes from a place of depression,” Kendrick said. “It comes from a place of insecurity. Not only from them, but from myself. It’s a lot of things that I deal with personally that you deal with. That all of us in this room deal with. So, it touched on so many different things. As far as equality within us as human beings and accepting one another…It comes a lot of turmoil when you talk about money. When you talk about fame and fortune and success. A lot of things you gotta handle and balance and that brings a whole lot of depression. I’ve spoken with artists that’s done it before me. They said they went through the same phases too. Kendrick later touched on his good kid, m.A.A.d city cover art. He explained that the cover art consists of “so many dynamics” and is something that will stick with him forever. What’s even more tripped out, somebody that’s responsible for me being who I am today was the actual poster that was in the back,” he said. “That’s me and my father. If you look right in the back it’s me and him. He light-skinned, super pale, light…So, it’s so many dynamics in that cover, man. It’s something that’ll stick with me forever. Just the fact that I got my parents on there. It’s something that I can carry with me forever. When I have grandkids and they never met they grandparents. They great-grandparents or whatnot. They can go back and trace that album and say ‘Okay, I know what they was like in real life.’” With his upcoming appearance on “Saturday Night Live” scheduled for November 15, Kendrick revealed that he hopes to also appear in a skit on the show. The rapper even offered his own idea for a skit, which would touch on matters of gentrification. I wanna do skits out of the norm,” Kendrick said. “Something that contrasts. I always talked about—but recently we started talking about how it never was any white people in the city, in my schooling. From the Compton school district. I would like to do something where I can contrast that and bring it all the way back and put me in the class where it’s different types of ethnicities other than the minority. I wonder how would I function in that type of environment. I think that’d be fun."
P.S. We have Big K.R.I.T.'s new album and a new EP from The L.O.X.

Birdman Explains Delay For Lil Wayne's, Nicki Minaj's Albums

Birdman explained to XXL today (October 28) why Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj pushed back the release dates of their albums. The CEO of Cash Money says that it was Lil Wayne’s idea and Young Money’s first lady followed suit. “[Wayne]’s so much an artist like that,” Birdman says. “He change his mind a lot. He feel like he want to do more. Really, they be on they call. It ain’t on me. So whatever Wayne want to do, Nicki want to do. I leave that up to them. I don’t decide on dates and everything. I don’t do none of that.” Yesterday, karencivil.com announced that Lil Wayne was pushing back the release date for Tha Carter V. The album was slated to be released today. Nicki Minaj announced via press release that she moved the drop date for The Pinkprint from November 24 to December 15. Also in the XXL interview, Birdman discusses his work with Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug. “I’m just working with them as artists,” he says. “It ain’t about what I can make from them. It’s what I can make of ‘em. You can take nothing to something. That speaks more than anything. That speaks volumes to me. I’m always gonna be a part of their career. It ain’t about what I can make off them. You do something for a muthafucka who never have nothing and make him outta something he gonna do for you regardless.” In August, Rich Homie Quan said that he might sign with Cash Money. “Cash Money my idols coming up,” he said at the time. “To just changing the whole game. And if it doesn’t, it doesn’t, but I haven’t signed a deal at the moment. I’m still independent as we speak. Other than that, man, like I always say I’m trying to make the movement bigger than life. And if it works out with Cash Money it works out, but if it doesn’t Birdman will be my uncle for life.”

P.S. We have new EPs from Joe Budden and Cam'ron, Ransom's new album.
