True Music of 2013

2013 was a great a great year in hip-hop. We had seven rap artist number one albums on Billboard Top 200, A$AP Rocky's Long Live A$AP, Kanye's Yeezus, Wale's Gifted, J.Cole's Born Sinner, Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, Drake's Nothing Was The Same, and Eminem's MMLP2. Not to mention, Justin Timberlake put out two number one album, with a hip hop vibe, completely produced by Timberland. And don't forget Beyonce's album, which is currently number one in seven countries. Hip hop was also graced with albums from T.I., Joe Budden, Lil Wayne, and Tyler The Creator, and Talib Kweli. The only thing that could have made this year better, would have been another album from Kendrick Lamar. With up and coming artists like Chance The Rapper, Ab-Soul, TuT, Mac Miller, and Add-2, all expected to have a big year in 2014; it's safe to say hip hop is alive and well. Although, 2013 had it far share of ignorance, with the "Hanna Montana" "Molly" "Rachet" "Turnt Up" fades in full effect, the game is still promising. With so many real artists making the crossover to pop culture, we finally have a platform for the rest of the world to hear. True music in hip hop has never been better.

P.S. Here are Angle Haze, Briget Kelly and Troy Ave's latest project along with some new singles, including one from Drake, for the end of the year. And don't forget to check out TrueMusic's Girl Next Door.

Beyoncé Talks New Album and Documentary

Beyoncé recently screened the videos from the project at New York City’s School of Visual Arts Theatre, just over a week after springing her surprise album on the world. While playing the clips for the New York audience of her video “Drunk In Love”, the Queen B answered a few questions submitted by her fans via Instagram. Mrs. Carter talked about the challenge of keeping an album like this under wraps. Also, she talks about her insperation, Madonna, and how motherhood changed her. It's hard too believe that The Queen was scarred of how her "visual album" would be received. Beyoncé also spoke about what she wanted to accomplish with her new album. “My goal was not picking a number one single. My goal was putting together a body of work,” said Bey. “I just wanted to know if people cared about music, because honestly I was at a point where I felt like everything feels the same… If I could not challenge that, then maybe it was time for me to do something else.” Bey's album went platinum in its first week, and is currently number one in ten countries. The Beyonce-blitzkrieg isn't going to stop her, she even plans to release a mini documentary on the making of her album.

P.S. Watch Bey's full question and answer session below, plus download Fabolous' new mixtape and more. Also, check out The L.O.X. interview, Miley Cyrus new video, and be sure to check out TrueMusic's latest Girl Next Door.

TDE Takeover

There hasn't been a group quite like Top Dawg Entertainment since the end of the Rocafella era. TDE is an independant record label founded in 2004 by CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith and Terrence "Punch" Henderson. Their artist roster consists of MC's Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, singer SZA, and bigwig Kendrick Lamar. They bring a energy to hip-hop that hasn't been seen in a while. As the star of the group, Kendrick Lamar has the potential to be the next Jay Z. He has the right amount of commercialism, mixed with his conscientious lyricism, and an honesty that connects to just about every demographic. Although, he didn't drop an album in 2013, it was definitely his year. The classic LP he dropped in the fourth quarter of 2012, good kid, m.A.A.d. city was able to maintain relevancy the following year; even with albums from Jay Z, J. Cole, Kanye West, Eminem, and Drake hitting the market. On top of that, K.Dot was on just about every feature imaginable. Next up for TDE is Schoolboy Q. He has released a number of features this year and is expected to drop an album and album next month. Ab-Soul, the genius of the group has even released a few singles this year, along with a number of features; including Mac Miller and Chance The Rappers latest Projects. Ab-Soul may even be more lyrical than Kendrick. He has definitely got him beat on the consciousness aspect of the rhymes. Soulo's fans have been inching for another project after, ever since he dropped his second album Control system last year. Lucky there is some hope. TDE founder Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith said on twitter, two days ago, that we can expect an album from all six of TDE's artist in 2014. Now we can definitely expect albums from Schoolboy and Kendrick, maybe even an album from Ab-Soul. As for Jay Rock and the newly signed artist, Isaiah Rashad and SZA, their project will most likely be in the form of mixtapes and EPs; considering they haven't recieved very much promotion from the label so far. Either way new music from TDE is nothing but good for hip-hop. Hope OVO's camp is ready for the competition. 2014 is going to be very interesting.

P.S. here is the new video Sing About Me, from Kendrick Lamar's latest album, as well as the latest music from the TDE stars. Also be sure to check out TrueMusic's latest Girl Next Door.

Future ft Schoolboy Q & Diddy - Shit (Remix)

YG Hootie ft. Kendrick Lamar – Two Presidents (iTunes)

Ab-Soul - Dub Sac

Isaiah Rashad - Shot You Down (Remix)
