Jeezy: "Nobody In This Game Got My Credentials… It’s Me & 2Pac, That’s It"

Let's get straight to it. In a recent interview with Hot 97, Jeezy compared himself to the late great Tupac Shakur. The Snowman expressed his mission to take on the leadership role for the youth. According to Jeezy, the only other hip-hop star to carry this load was Tupac Shakur. "I can't prove anything to nobody in this game. Ain't nobody in this game got my credentials. It ain't nothing to talk about. It's me and Pac. That's it, leave it there." When asked about Jay Z's place in that conversation, Jeezy shows respect to his frequent rhyme partner, but adds he and Tupac represent the revolutionary side of the coin, while Jay represents the business side. "Hov is a business man, but me and Pac we're more so on some revolutionary leadership. Don't get me wrong - Hov, that's my G. At the end of the day, I respect anything he do, but he's a boss. He makes boss moves, but you have somebody like me and Pac, we're always on the ground level trying to motivate and inspire the people with my music." Now, there is nothing wrong with Jeezy comparing himself to Pac. For instance, both artists are have fairly basic rhyming styles and depict thug-life in a timeless manner, but for Jeezy to compare himself to any revolutionary is downright asinine. Also, downplaying Jay Z's revolutionary style is equally offensive. Jeezy is just not a revolutionary artist, while Pac on the other hand is the most recognized revolutionary artist in modern day history. Jeezy's music has substance. It's real and relatable to a large demographic, but there is no sense of direction in terms of uplifting. While Tupac glorified "Thug Life" in general, he doesn't glorify the drug dealing lifestyle and is much more versatile than Jeezy. As far as Jay Z only being a business man, Jay is one of the most politically active artists today. There are literally a handful of artists who talk about the likes of Marcus Garvey and Jean-Michel Basquiat; let alone, actually give the public constructive ideas as how to make society a better place (all of which Jay does). Jeezy is one of the best MCs doing it right now and his upcoming album "Seen It All" is sure to another classic, but we have to call a spade a spade. Hopefully Jeezy does get more revolutionary with his rhymes, it will definitely make for some better music.
