So many times the Grammy's choices for album of the year comes from the mind set of a twelve year old girl and her pop icon. In reality, record sales and who takes home a Grammy doesn't matter. The Clash's album London Calling, one of the top ten greatest rock albums of all time didn't even go gold when it first dropped. The Dixie Chicks took home album of the year in 2007, same year Kanye West dropped the Graduation. Hip hop and R&B is the most influential genre of music in our present day society; so it's bullshit when there is only two albums from hip hop and R&B, to ever take home album of the year at the Grammys. However, sometimes hip hop can't be stopped, so when Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Outkast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below take home the honors, it's not just justified, it is long overdue. This year hip hop has a better chance than most, with Kendrick Lamar's album good kid, m.A.A.d. city and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's album The Heist are both up for album of the year. Now, if K.Dot does not take home album of the year the universe should implode on itself, because it just defies the laws of physics. As for the best rap album of the year, The Grammys dropped the ball once again by not even nominating J. Cole's Born Sinner, which is by far the best rap album of 2013. Even though good kid, m.A.A.d city dropped in 2012 it is nominated and deserves the award. Although, knowing the Grammys Drake will most likely take home the honors for Nothing Was The Same, which is his best album to date. When it comes to best rap performance Drake deserves to take home the crown for his hit single Started From The Bottom. He didn't just make a hit, he started a movement. Now, hands down the best rap collaboration will go to Jay z and Justin Timberlake with their hit Holy Grail. However, don't be surprised if they throw J. Cole a bone for his hit Power Trip featuring Miquel, since they bent him over a barrel with rap album of the year. As for best rap song I can guarantee their will be riots in the streets if Kanye West does not win it with his iconic song New Slaves. For their sake lets just hope they get it right.
P.S. Here are the full list of the nominees along with Ashanti's new x-mas Ep and MMG's latest mixtape. And be sure to check out True Music's latest Girl Next Door Tamara.
