While every other blogs seems to be speaking on the negative comments that Damon Dash had to say about Steve Stoute on a recent interview done by Hip Hop Motivation Corporation, they seemed to completely miss the message. The most important words Dame spoke were: "Black people never help each other. We never stick together. We are the most retarded culture in the world for that. I always say that. You know, for some reason when black people get something, they feel like they cant share it with other black people, cuz that other person is gonna take it from them. But, thats when someone's givin' you somethin' You know, culturally, because we were slaves I guess we feel like we need another culture to make us. To validate us. To get us from one level to the next, but you know, its to be expected. It's human. You know, we just got a black president.....you know, in there seven years ago. Things are just changin'. So, now black people are stickin' together, but the old black man felt they had to $h!t on each other to survive. It was a survival tactic. You know, its not excusable but I can understand it. But, yet we can't act like we stick together, cuz we don't." Dames words may be harsh, but then again Dame has never been one for subtleties. Unfortunately, most of what Dame is saying is true. Black people do not help each other out enough, and its a shame, seeing as how the black community is the largest ethnicity in the world. While, "retarded" may not be the best way to describe the culture, the black community is prone to self degradation. We are the only community who do things as foolish as bleaching our skin. We consider the the color and texture of another races hair to be superior to our own, so much that we have inflated the price of hair to be worth more than its weight in gold. We commit more acts of violence on our own people than the George Zimmerman's, the police, and any other outside threat combined. Worse of all, we are the only community who worship a god who's picture does not look like ours. As for, "looking for another culture to validate us" it is not so much a survival tactic, as it is an obligation. There are so few successful blacks on that "next level," that we are forced to gravitate towards those who think like like us financially, as opposed to those who look like us physically. Obviously, the Black community does need to stick together, and you can even make a case that things are changing. However one black president still makes 43-1, in their favor.
