Common Sense has found a new home with longtime collaborator, NO I.D.'s Atrium record label, which is through Def Jam. This happening less than three years after signing with Warner Bros. Records, a deal that was made through Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music. Common plans on releasing his upcoming tenth studio album "Nobody Smiling," through his new record label. According to a press release made by the legendary MC, the signing has been in the works for quite some time. "I'm honored to team up with NO I.D. and be a part of the Atrium and Def Jam family. Creating the album and signing to Def Jam feels like a new beginning for me. I feel like a new artist because I created this album with the purpose to give back to my city and to the culture of hip-hop. Def Jam is part of the foundation of hip-hop and being able to work with NO I.D. was returning to my foundation now with new energy and new hunger." This project is set to be a concept album of sorts. Focusing on the violence in the Chicago inner-city, Common has stated this album will be a call to action, in efforts to top the killings and address the social issues. Common has always been socially conscious when it comes to his music. The album is scheduled to be released on July 22nd, almost three years since his last LP, "The Dreamer/The Believer."
