The Numbers Are In For 50 Cent's “Animal Ambition”

The numbers are in, and 50 Cent's independent release "Animal Ambition" has broken the Queens Rapper streak of 150,000 units sold out the gate. 50's fifth studio album only pushed around 40,000 copies in its first week. Previous 50 Cent albums have all been commercially successful. "Get Rich or Die Tryin" (872,000), "The Massacre" (1.14 million), "Curtis" (691,000), and "Before I Self Destruct" (160,000) opened with a minimum of six figures in units sold opening week and went on to reach at least gold status in the United States. The sad part is, this is Fif's best album since The Massacre, and by far the best project put forth by any artist this year. The lack of commercial success is surprising. Animal Ambition has the raw edge of "Get Rich or Die Tryin," a very 90's feel, with a modern day sound. The most likely explanation could be that fact that 50 leaked a song a week for the last three months. However, we all know 50 Cent is strategically genius. Seeing how Animal Ambition was originally meant to be a mixtape, this may be a move that was meant more for publicity than sales. 50 is back on the radio, he just shut down Summer Jam, and reunited G-Unit. On top of accomplishing all that in a matter of weeks, 50 cent plans on releasing his next album Street Kings Immortal this September and a new G-Unit project the following month. 50 Cent is definitely back, let's just hope he gets back to the top.
