Lil Wayne Talks Carter V Season

Ever since Drake prematurely announced the false release date for what would be Lil Wayne's last album, Tha Carter V, any new news about Wayne has the hip-hop world buzzing. Since then the TYCMB president has gotten help creating hype from celebrity friends Kobe Bryant and Floyd Mayweather. Just over a month ago The Black Mamba tweeted out what was thought to be the artwork for Tha Carter V. Not to long after that Money Mayweather put out a teaser video on Instagram, of what was Wayne and Drake in the studio working on Tha Carter V. Wayne spoke with ESPN to talk about how the All-Star and the rap star connected to make that promotional tactic happen. "My homey Cortez came up with it: 'What do you think about Kobe tweeting the album art?' I'm like.....That'd be dope," said Wayne. "So I had the homey hit him up simple procedure: Hey, can you tweet this? And he did. It wasn't planned or paid. I only went to the homeys as a favor for a friend." The Young Money leader also revealed that it was Kobe that came up with the "Carter V Season" theme for the roll-out of the project. That led to Wayne reaching out to boxing champion Floyd Mayweather to assist with the campaign. "We knew Floyd had a fight coming up. So all eyes were on him. I have his number, so I had my homey hit him up: Can you put this video of Drake out, as a little tease? He did, and it worked. That sh!t was crazy. I told him I appreciate him He said he's down for whatever else. That's Floyd, down for whatever." Wayne also discussed how Ta Carter V is all about "growth," and the album will present "wiser" thoughts. "I still say what I want to say, it just sounds better and makes more sense. That all comes with growth and maturity." We all know when Wayne puts his mind to it he can make a classic album, case and point Tha Carter III. Still no exact release date, but the Young Money camp has already said that Wayne will drop his album before Nicki Minaj drops The Pinkprint, so the latest should be the third quarter.
